SPOTLIGHT: LEITH ROSS
Meet Leith Ross and tune into their sophomore album “I Can See The Future”
Winnipeg-based indie pop-folk artist Leith Ross has quietly transformed vulnerability into anthemic intimacy. Rising to international attention with the viral single We’ll Never Have Sex in 2022, Ross captured listeners with their gentle delivery, bedroom-pop charm, and a raw honesty that resonated across the sapphic community and beyond. Signed to Republic Records the same year, they’ve since built a devoted audience eager to not only listen, but feel.
Ross’ latest single, Stay, continues this thread of connection. Describing the track, they say it’s about “actively seeking out and fostering community, learning to lean on human beings, both neighbors, friends, and strangers.” The track wraps like a warm embrace, understated yet deeply resonant, offering a preview of what fans can expect from the upcoming sophomore album I Can See The Future, out September 19th.
The album invites listeners into a reflective space, expanding Ross’ bedroom pop roots into lush soundscapes. It is, in their words, “an attempt to answer some of the questions I’ve been obsessed with about who I am, my place in a world with such horrid cruelty and apathy, and my place in the joy that resists it.” Tracks like Grieving and Terrified layer introspection with soft, textured instrumentation, while songs such as I Love Watching You Eat Dinner balance intimacy with the warmth of everyday life.
For Ross, the record is not only a personal exploration but also a blueprint for communal experience. On the upcoming 21-show tour, they hope to foster togetherness in ways that feel “therapeutic…a moment of togetherness in a world that is certainly making us feel like we don’t have that anymore.” They envision performances where audiences can connect with each other, and even local organizations, creating a sense of participation that extends beyond the music itself. “I have many dreams…like doing a really strange tour, you know, where we’re all on the floor or something freaky that can be more conducive to this atmosphere of togetherness,” Ross explains. Musically, the tour promises to bring the album to life in a way that feels natural yet expansive. Further, fostering an opportunity for both longtime fans and newcomers to experience the vulnerability and artistry that define Ross’ work, while also discovering the shared humanity embedded in their songs.
With I Can See The Future and the accompanying tour, Leith Ross’ journey from intimate bedroom recordings to global recognition is a testament to the power of honesty and connection in music.
Leith Ross will be headling Los Angeles’ El Rey Theater on November 18th.
