SPOTLIGHT: ARON!

Meet aron! and tune into his newest EP “cozy you (and other nice songs).”

Aron! is making vulnerability feel a little more charming, and a whole lot cozier. The North Carolina-born artist is settling down into his Verve Records debut with “cozy you (and other nice songs),” a breezy, jazz-pop EP full of heartfelt moments, whimsical storytelling, and just enough wit to keep you smiling through the ache.

Raised on a musical diet of Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin, and Guitar Hero, aron! first picked up the guitar at eight. But it was a now-legendary jazz teacher at a local Sam Ash who helped him dive deep into the music that would shape him. That early influence led to classical composition studies at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, followed by jazz voice and film scoring at the University of Miami, all while moonlighting in an indie pop band called Sunny Side Up!.

This wide-ranging musical education now funnels into aron!’s unique style: vintage-inspired, jazz-tinged pop that feels just as comfortable in a modern-day romcom as it would in a 1950s vinyl collection. “It’s like singer-songwriter jazz,” he explains. “I’ve always resonated with the real old-school romantics… Heartbreak is heartbreak, and love is love. We’re all humans, and that’s what most of these songs are about.”

His new single “table for two” captures that ethos perfectly. With an upbeat groove and a slightly ridiculous music video that sees aron! carrying a dinner table across Los Angeles in search of a date who may or may not show up, the track blurs the line between sincere and self-aware. That contrast isn’t accidental. “It’s something that I think comes from me as a person,” aron! says. “Like, I just can’t be vulnerable for so long without making a joke, it’s maybe a problem, but for now it’s like a songwriting technique. I like when there’s layers to it… it’s really happy on top and then kinda silly lyrics, but they point to an actual thing, like having trouble finding someone you connect with. I think that balance kinda makes things mean more, or actually deeper.”

That push and pull of lightness and depth runs through the EP’s six tracks, from the soul-bearing “a life without you” to the soft-spoken humor of “eggs in the morning.” Each song is its own little vignette or, as aron! calls them, “nice songs,” building a musical world that feels like a blanket, a cup of tea, and a long walk through your feelings.

Hi! My name is Ian, and I run all things Recently Played! I believe in putting a face to a name, so please take this time to get to know me!

I started this publication because music has always been a guiding light throughout my life. No matter if I am on the verge of either success or sorrow, the answer is music. Either lifting me higher than I already was or grabbing my hand, directing me to the end of the tunnel, I always turn to music. I craved an environment to discuss all things accustomed to it!
